Why I built 300WOD

Dennis Jensen on heavy lifts, purposeful intensity and why the next workout should know what came before.

The experience came before the app

My personal transformations happened before the app existed. The experience I gained through both of them helped shape the training concept that became 300WOD.

I was not simply looking for a way to fit training into thirty minutes. I wanted training that challenged my strength development and combined strength work with the intensity I enjoyed in HIIT and Tabata-style sessions. Fat loss and building muscle were part of my own goals, not a promise that everyone would get the same results.

What I took from CrossFit

CrossFit helped me fall in love with the big, heavy lifts. I enjoyed variety and being challenged. But some parts of my experience did not suit the way I wanted to train.

Some conditioning movements felt purposeless to me, and kipping was not how I wanted to perform my repetitions. I preferred controlled execution. I also wanted today’s session to take account of the muscles I had loaded yesterday. These were my preferences and frustrations, not a judgement on everyone who trains CrossFit.

Variation with a reason

I wanted variation without losing direction: strength work, purposeful intensity and a next workout informed by the work already done. That wish became the reason to include adaptive training in the concept.

In 300WOD, Muscle Impact describes where a workout places training exposure. Muscle Readiness carries recent logged load forward. Together, that information helps the system shape what comes next. Readiness is a training-load indicator, not a medical measurement of recovery.

A clear structure I could return to

Six exercises. Fifty reps each. Three hundred reps in total. A reference standard of thirty minutes. That structure gave the concept a recognisable shape, while level, equipment and resistance made room to adapt.

Being a father also made the practical side matter. Less time planning and a clear place to start helped training fit real life. But the purpose was still to do meaningful work and keep developing, not merely to finish quickly.

From my own training to a product

This journal is where I will share the thinking behind the concept, my own development and the work of turning those ideas into a product. It is also where I will explain how to use 300WOD and what its features actually mean in training.

The competition is you. For me, that means returning to the work, understanding what has changed and having a reason for the next session.
